Seby Haddad for Texas House District 41

Working Together for a Stronger Community.

Together, we can build a South Texas where every family thrives, every business grows, and every community feels safe.

My Priorities

Healthcare & Social Safety Net

  • Medicaid Expansion: Expanding Medicaid to cover more low-income Texans and improve rural hospital financial health.
  • Reproductive Rights: Counter Texas’s extreme reproductive healthcare policies which risk women’s lives and impact all women.
  • Access to care: Increase the number of hospital beds, ER beds, and clinics. Foster a larger medical school and create a high-level medical education system in the RGV
  • Mental Health Funding: Increasing funding for mental health services and community-based care.

Education & Student Support

  • Increased Funding: Boosting public school funding to reduce reliance on local property taxes and improve teacher salaries.
  • Student-Centered Testing: Replacing high-stakes STAAR tests with assessments focused on tracking real-time learning and reducing student stress.
  • Move away from teaching to the test. Teachers must have the freedom to innovate, and students need to spend more time reading full books, writing, and developing critical thinking skills
  • Education: Protect public education by opposing private school vouchers that drain funding from our already underfunded public schools.
  • Higher Education Affordability: Supporting tuition freezes and expanding financial aid for public universities.

Labor & Worker Rights

  • Worker Safety: Strengthening municipal protections for worker health and safety, reversing recent laws that preempt local action.
  • Living Wages: Increasing the minimum wage for state workers and employees of contractors.
  • Collective Bargaining: Expanding collective bargaining rights for public sector employees, including educators.

Environment & Energy

  • Renewable Energy: Investing in clean energy, grid modernization, and energy efficiency programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Environmental Protection: Increasing funding for air and water monitoring, particularly in communities near industrial facilities.

Criminal Justice & Gun Safety

  • Gun Violence Prevention: Universal background checks so criminals and domestic abusers cannot easily obtain firearms.
  • Secure firearm storage laws to prevent accidental shootings and keep guns away from children.
  • Red flag laws that allow courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a serious threat to themselves or others.
  • Drug Decriminalization: Decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana.
  • Police Reform: funding to train officers to be prepared to respond and de-escalate situations

Voting & Democracy

  • Voting Rights: Implementing automatic voter registration, expanding mail-in voting, and increasing the number of polling locations.
  • Campaign Finance Reform: Limiting the influence of corporate money in state politics.

Immigration

Immigration Protect Dreamers and Expand Opportunity

Support permanent protections for DACA recipients and ensure Dreamers can access in-state tuition

Repeal SB4 and Stop Racial Profiling

Work to repeal Texas’ controversial immigration enforcement law, Texas Senate Bill 4 (2023), which allows state officials to arrest people suspected of entering the country illegally and has raised concerns about racial profiling and civil-rights violations.

Replace it with policies that strengthen community trust between law enforcement and immigrant families.

Secure the Border Without Militarizing Our Communities

Support practical border security focused on technology, coordination with federal authorities, and targeting human trafficking and smuggling, rather than flooding border communities with militarized state operations that disrupt daily life.

Protect Families and Due Process

Ensure immigrants and asylum seekers have access to legal representation, humane treatment, and due process under the law.
